Can you tell us about the process of making your work?
David Borgmann
I work with experimental abstract textures and stage them in an associative process to pictorial structures of landscapes and landscapes of pictorial structures.
How would you define your work in a few words (ideally in 3 words)?
The simplicity of a complex gesture.
Would you use another three different words to describe this particular painting?
The complexity of a simple gesture (and the fun of it).
How did you come up with this painting idea? Is there any story behind this painting?
Should I really do it? No I can‘t! Then I have to…
What would be the best way to exhibit your work?
Between an antique traditional landscape painting from an ancient Chinese master on a paper roll and a 90’s photo-wallpaper of an exotic landscape.
Can you mention any artists you, lately or generally, take inspiration from?
Hockney and Hokusai.
How do you know when this painting was
Always a big problem for me- like often I thought something was missing, some detail – so I added one and it just wasn’t good – I erased it, ergo the painting must have been finished before…
What about the place where you work? What’s your studio space look like?
Messy and in order at the same time.
Is there any particular message that you wish your viewers can take from this painting?
It is seriously funny.
Which exhibition did you visit last?
Alex Katz in Munich.
Which are your plans for the near future?
Soon to be somebody else.
